Digital Catapult has selected five startups for its defence accelerator programme, aiming to strengthen UK defence supply chain resilience through deep tech. The initiative focuses on secure data sharing and additive manufacturing to advance distributed 3D printing applications in the defence sector. Selected companies address two technical challenges: Dataline Labs, CamyPro, and TECHIA develop technical data packages and digital inventory connectors for secure metadata extraction and standardisation from PLM systems; Vistory Group and Quaisr build a federated digital inventory platform for unified permissions management of supply chain technical data. Supported by the UK Ministry of Defence, National Composites Centre, and Manufacturing Technology Centre, the programme targets pain points like long lead times for critical defence assets and fragmented data systems. Previously, Digital Catapult ran 37 supply chain projects, with participating companies securing over £6 million in funding and annual engagement growing by 44%. This initiative marks the deep penetration of metal 3D printing in defence supply chains, accelerating standardisation of metal powder materials and processes in distributed manufacturing of military components.
