Inconel 718 (UNS N07718, GH4169 in China) is the most widely used nickel superalloy in metal AM, specified for aerospace turbine hardware, oil-and-gas downhole tools and high-temperature structural parts up to 700°C. Its nickel-chromium base with niobium precipitation hardening delivers 950-1,000 MPa as-built tensile strength, and full AMS 5662 heat treatment lifts properties to wrought-equivalent levels. Published LPBF data show as-built Inconel 718 at 955 MPa UTS and 632 MPa YS with 29% elongation; heat treatment (solution + double ageing) raises strength to 1,200+ MPa. Gas-atomized powder in 15-45 µm and 15-53 µm cuts is standard. Gamma-prime precipitation makes Inconel 718 prone to cracking during printing on some machines — check that your supplier's powder has tight chemistry (Nb 4.75-5.5%) and low oxygen.
