18Ni300 (Maraging 300) is an ultra-high-strength tool steel powder for injection molds and high-load tooling. In the as-built condition it is soft and machinable at about 30-35 HRC; a simple 490 C aging cycle for 4-6 hours precipitates intermetallics that push hardness to 50-55 HRC with tensile strength near 1900 MPa and almost no distortion. That combination makes it the standard choice for conformally cooled mold inserts, stamping and extrusion tooling, and aerospace support tooling. The alloy contains 18% nickel and costs more than H13, but reduced scrap and faster cycles often justify the price in production tooling. Chinese manufacturers supply vacuum-melted, gas-atomized 18Ni300 in 15-53 micron cuts with full traceability.
