Researchers from Politecnico di Torino and Maastricht University have developed a bio-scaffold design tool based on a Voronoi path generator for extrusion-based 3D printing of lung tissue models. This Python software generates continuous tool paths to fabricate irregular biomimetic structures via melt electrowriting and fused deposition modeling, successfully replicating alveolar tissue morphology. The study combines electrospun nanofiber membranes to construct a multiscale alveolar-capillary barrier model, offering a new approach for in vitro lung tissue modeling.
