Japanese electronic components giant TDK announced the all-cash acquisition of U.S. metal additive manufacturing company Fabric8Labs for up to $400 million. Fabric8Labs uses its proprietary Electrochemical Additive Manufacturing (ECAM) process to produce liquid-cooling thermal hardware for data centers and semiconductor industries. TDK had been investing through its venture arm since 2021. Post-acquisition, Fabric8Labs will operate as an independent wholly-owned subsidiary. The ECAM technology also offers advanced packaging capabilities, enabling TDK to simultaneously reduce chip power consumption and cooling hardware power consumption, establishing a differentiated advantage in computing energy efficiency.
