On August 31, 2026, a new study published in Additive Manufacturing introduced an in-situ alignment method for dual-laser powder bed fusion (PBF) scan fields based on off-axis bed imaging. During printing, an off-axis camera observes the bed in real time to automatically calibrate scan field deviations between the two lasers. This approach addresses defects and yield loss caused by misalignment in the overlap region during multi-laser tiled printing—a critical process control point as large-format multi-laser systems scale up in production, where scan field alignment is essential for batch-to-batch consistency.
