Metal 3D printing company 3DEO has entered an assignment for the benefit of creditors (ABC) under California law, with its intellectual property portfolio and select equipment now listed for sale. A stalking horse bid of $3,426,507 has been received, covering 19 granted patents, 10 pending patent applications, proprietary process know-how, trade secrets, software, and mechanical property data for four metal alloys. 3DEO’s core technology is its “Smart Layering” process, which combines binder jetting with layer-by-layer CNC milling to produce small, complex metal parts with tolerances of ±0.002 inches and surface roughness of 100 Ra. Qualified bids are due by August 12, 2026; if multiple qualifying bids are received, a live auction will be held via Zoom on August 14. Remaining machinery will be auctioned online via BidSpotter.com from July 24 to August 18. 3DEO’s case highlights the structural challenge in additive manufacturing of being technologically advanced but commercially undercapitalized.
