U.S. defense tech company Firestorm Labs has completed an $82 million Series B funding round, bringing total funding to $153 million. Led by Washington Harbour Partners with participation from Lockheed Martin, Booz Allen Hamilton, and others, the funds will be used to scale production of its xCell platform, with a primary focus on deployment in the Indo-Pacific region. The xCell is a containerized manufacturing platform that leverages industrial-grade additive manufacturing technology developed in partnership with HP, enabling on-site production of drones and combat components, rapid design iteration, and field-level fabrication. The platform also functions as an open ecosystem, allowing partners to produce systems independently and streamline assembly processes. With the U.S. Department of Defense's additive manufacturing budget increasing 83% year-over-year and designating 'contested logistics technology' as one of six key investment areas, this round marks the transition of 3D printing from prototyping to frontline scalable deployment. For the metal powder industry, this signals a significant rise in demand for high-performance, field-printable metal powders, pushing supply chains toward the tactical edge.
