Volkmann has launched the PowTReX metal powder recovery system to address efficiency bottlenecks in additive manufacturing powder handling. The system extracts powder directly from the build chamber using a vacuum suction gun, reducing human exposure risk. PowTReX integrates ultrasonic sieving to remove coarse particles and agglomerates generated during the printing process. Recovered powder is processed in a sealed system with controlled dosing, ensuring specification-compliant powder safely returns to the production workflow, and it is compatible with multiple 3D printer brands. As metal additive manufacturing scales, powder handling has evolved from a supporting step to a core process control point. Traditional manual recovery methods lead to contamination and quality fluctuations, limiting production efficiency. This technology upgrades powder recovery from simple recycling to a controlled reconditioning process. For production teams, stable powder quality directly determines part performance, making it a fundamental enabler for mass production.
