The Ministry of Industry and Information Technology recently approved China's first commercial trial for satellite IoT services, granting Beijing GuoDian Hi-Tech Technology Co., Ltd. a two-year pilot period. During the trial, GuoDian Hi-Tech may lawfully operate satellite IoT services on a trial basis, leveraging its independently built and operated 'Tianqi Constellation' low-earth-orbit satellite constellation to provide low-power, wide-coverage, and highly reliable IoT connectivity services for industries such as marine fisheries, energy and water resources, and transportation logistics. The Ministry officially launched the commercial trial in November 2025. Satellite IoT serves as a key complement to broadband satellite internet, and this trial is expected to drive economies of scale in satellite IoT, stimulate private sector vitality, and support the development of commercial aerospace.
