French startup TETMET has developed the Adaptive Spatial Lattice Manufacturing (ASLM) process, which uses an AI-controlled robotic arm equipped with a fiber laser welding module to precisely position solid metal bars, spot-weld only at nodal points, then cut, building 3D lattice structures point by point. The process welds only the nodes without melting the entire cross-section, reportedly reducing energy consumption by 99.7% compared to laser-directed energy deposition and 88.6% compared to wire arc additive manufacturing, while the embodied energy of the metal bars is only one-third that of metal powders, and material usage is reduced by over 40%. The company has built its first vertically integrated production facility near Amsterdam Airport in the Netherlands, featuring a 12×3×3 meter production platform, targeting applications in aircraft seats, speedboat hulls, solar panel supports, and future in-orbit manufacturing and assembly.
