US-based AI company Anthropic has released eight Claude connectors, enabling users to control design software such as Autodesk Fusion, Blender, and SketchUp through natural language. Engineers can create and iterate 3D models, automate repetitive design tasks, and coordinate file transfers across production workflows. The connectors primarily address tool coordination issues, where manual file movement and conversion currently consume significant labor without producing physical parts. The Autodesk Fusion integration allows subscribers to create and modify models via dialogue, while the Blender connector invokes Python API through natural language, supporting batch modifications and mesh repair. Anthropic has donated to the Blender project to support API development. The connectors do not cover build preparation, support optimization, or machine connectivity, which remain the domain of specialized additive manufacturing software. The company also announced partnerships with three institutions including Rhode Island School of Design, providing access to Claude and the full suite of connectors. Industry surveys indicate workflow control has surpassed process knowledge as the primary competitive advantage, with software advances driving a shift from general-purpose AI to compressed tools that eliminate manual handoffs.
