Germany's Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology (Fraunhofer ILT) and Spain's Etxetar have signed a memorandum of understanding to jointly advance the industrial application of Laser Metal Deposition (LMD) and Extreme High-Speed Laser Material Deposition (EHLA). The partnership combines expertise in process development, industrial engineering, and application know-how, focusing on aircraft component repair and coating technologies. The EU's Euro 7 regulation, which limits particulate emissions from brakes, is a direct driver for the scaled application of EHLA coatings, with similar requirements expected to expand to markets such as China, India, and Japan. In the aviation sector, the repair of blisks and turbine blades is a key focus. Digitization and AI (AI-SLAM project) support scaled deployment through real-time geometric measurement and automatic parameter adjustment.
