On June 1, 2026, the Long March 12B carrier rocket completed its maiden flight from the Dongfeng Commercial Aerospace Innovation Pilot Zone, successfully deploying the tenth batch of Qianfan constellation networking satellites into their intended orbit. As China's currently highest single-core rocket, it offers a low Earth orbit payload capacity of up to 20 tons. From the official start of development in September 2024 to its maiden flight, it took only 21 months, setting a new speed record for China's large launch vehicle development. The rocket adopts a single-stage configuration with nine 100-ton thrust liquid oxygen/kerosene engines operating in parallel, achieving systematic weight reduction through innovations such as a large-diameter common bulkhead fuel tank and an integrated aft segment, while incorporating automotive-grade components to lower costs. Its electrical system is the first in China to apply time-sensitive networking technology, enabling a full-vehicle unified network for control and measurement. This successful launch from a self-developed test stand has closed the loop on the ‘rocket-to-launch-site’ industrial chain, laying a solid foundation for future high-density launches and key reusable rocket technology breakthroughs.
