On October 23, the European Powder Metallurgy Association (EPMA) announced a partnership with the European Additive Manufacturing Alliance (add)liance) to interconnect their respective powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing networks across Europe. This marks the EPMA's second network-level collaboration with a European AM ecosystem organization, following its earlier union with AM-Platform. (add)liance Chairman David Adrover Iglesias framed the partnership as a strategic step toward bridging manufacturing technologies, industrial value chains, and the European AM community, accelerating industrial adoption of additive manufacturing by merging networks and expertise. (add)liance connects more than 500 stakeholders across 25 countries through its four-year AMin4Y roadmap, spanning equipment, materials, processes, and end-use applications. The formal alignment of the two systems opens channels for standards, certification, education, and industrial collaboration. Powder metallurgy (PM/MIM) and metal additive manufacturing overlap heavily in materials and supply chains, so network interconnection is expected to reduce duplicated investment by companies and accelerate cross-process migration, providing a substantive boost to standardization and coordination across the metal powder and 3D printing value chain. Value for powder buyers: (1) Connecting the European PM and AM networks will promote mutual recognition of powder standards and certification, allowing powder companies exporting to Europe to prepare technical documentation against both PM and AM specifications in advance; (2) Joint procurement and demonstration projects within the AMin4Y ecosystem may create windows for bulk orders; (3) It is advisable to monitor upcoming joint activities and assess the barriers and opportunities for participating in European supply chains.
