MX3D (Amsterdam, Netherlands, a robotics metal additive manufacturing system provider) has received DNV's Additive Manufacturing Criticality Level 3 (AMC3) certification under the DNV-ST-B203 standard for metal components in maritime, defense, and energy sectors, covering its WAAM (wire arc additive manufacturing) facility. Dr. Sastry Kandukuri, DNV's Global Practice Lead for Additive Manufacturing, stated that MX3D is the world's first company to obtain DNV AMC3 certification for DED-Arc/WAAM technology. AMC3 is the highest level in DNV's additive manufacturing certification, with audits covering the factory, software, and WAAM process to verify its ability to reliably produce high-load structural components; testing includes material verification and quality checks of the robotic system and MetalXL software. CEO Gijs van der Velden said the certification confirms the company's technology and processes meet the quality and safety standards for high-criticality metal parts. The certification will support MX3D in producing large, heavy metal components via WAAM, replacing traditional forging and casting routes. Historically, in 2017 DNV GL reached an agreement with Aurora Labs on a certification framework for metal 3D printed parts, and in 2018 AML Technologies became the first company to receive Lloyd's Register WAAM facility certification—third-party certification is becoming threshold infrastructure for metal additive manufacturing to enter critical industries. Value for powder buyers: ① WAAM uses a wire route, so direct powder demand is limited, but the additive manufacturing of large structural parts will disrupt the forged and cast parts supply chain, indirectly affecting the structure of metal raw material demand; ② certification precedents in maritime/energy provide qualification references for other process routes such as powder bed, and attention should be paid to the spillover of standards like DNV-ST-B203 on supplier systems; ③ as certification barriers rise, metal additive manufacturing capacity with third-party certification will gain premiums and order倾斜, and同类企业 certification dynamics can be tracked.
