Materialise has announced a minority equity investment in Belgian medical technology startup Replasia, with co-investor including medical technology entrepreneur Andy Christensen. Replasia's core products include HipStudio, which provides patient-specific measurements to support preoperative planning for hip preservation surgery, and the 3D Shelf implant, a personalized 3D printed device placed outside the joint capsule that offers a less traumatic alternative for specific hip dysplasia patients. In August 2025, Replasia initiated its first-in-human clinical study in the Netherlands. Materialise believes that personalized orthopedic treatment is shifting from 'joint replacement' upstream to 'joint preservation.' This investment will leverage its digital planning software expertise and market access to support Replasia's entry into European and American markets. Replasia's co-founder stated that this investment validates the company's technological direction.
