Materialise has announced a minority investment in Replasia, a Belgian medical technology startup, with co-investor and medtech entrepreneur Andy Christensen. Replasia's core products include HipStudio, which provides patient-specific measurements for preoperative planning in hip preservation surgery, and the 3D Shelf implant, a personalized 3D-printed device placed outside the joint capsule to offer a less invasive alternative for specific hip dysplasia patients. In August 2025, Replasia launched its first-in-human clinical study in the Netherlands. Materialise believes that orthopedic personalized treatment is shifting from 'joint replacement' toward upstream 'joint preservation.' This investment will leverage its digital planning software expertise and market access to support Replasia's entry into the U.S. and European markets. Replasia's co-founder stated that this investment validates the company's technology direction.
