At IMTS 2026 (Chicago, September 14–19), Stratasys launched the F870, a large-scale production-grade FDM platform with a build size of 1000×610×610 mm—the longest heated-chamber industrial FDM system from the brand—starting at $149,000. The F870 supports Nylon 12CF carbon fiber, ASA, ABS, and the new ABS Draft material, and features three print heads and a two-chamber heated drying system (capable of drying moist filament overnight). Early adopters include Rivian and Toyota, using it for production-line tooling, fixtures, and inspection gauges. At the show, Stratasys also displayed automotive applications such as a 42-inch-wide Nylon 12CF robotic end-of-arm tool (EOAT), and introduced Somos Resolute Gray photopolymer resin and AdditiveApp tooling design software. Value for powder buyers: scaling FDM automotive tooling will replace some metal machined parts, diverting some metal powder demand in the short term; however, polymer tooling and metal-printed structural parts are complementary in the automotive sector, and overall additive penetration growth remains favorable for the metal powder market.
