2. Heat Treatment — Critical for Aluminum AM Parts

Unlike titanium where as-built properties are often sufficient, aluminum AM parts almost always require post-process heat treatment to relieve residual stress and optimize mechanical properties.

T6 (Solution + Aging): Standard for AlSi10Mg. Solution treat at 520–540°C for 1–2 hours, water quench, then age at 155–175°C for 6–12 hours. Achieves maximum strength but may cause distortion in thin-walled parts.
Stress Relief (SR): 280–300°C for 2 hours. Lower strength than T6 but minimal distortion. Preferred for complex geometries with thin walls.
Hot Isostatic Pressing (HIP): 450–500°C at 100 MPa. Eliminates internal porosity for fatigue-critical parts. Adds ¥30–60/kg to final cost.
