Italian aerospace propulsion systems company Avio Aero and Colibrium Additive, both subsidiaries of GE Aerospace, jointly unveiled a globally integrated additive manufacturing ecosystem that combines materials, equipment development, process engineering, and industrialization capabilities. Since its launch in 2013, the Cameri plant in Italy has evolved into GE Aerospace's flagship metal additive manufacturing production center, employing Electron Beam Powder Bed Fusion (E-PBF) technology for the industrial production of aircraft engine components. A prime example is the titanium aluminide low-pressure turbine blade—produced using AP&C powders and Colibrium Additive E-PBF equipment—which weighs only half as much as conventional nickel-based superalloy blades, significantly boosting fuel efficiency. The Turin Additive Lab handles process development and industrial transition, with AI already assisting in image analysis for inspection. GE Aerospace plans to invest over €110 million in European additive manufacturing by 2026.
