Swedish Steel Group (SSAB) has announced the expansion of its additive manufacturing steel powder plant in Oxelösund, with construction scheduled to begin in 2026 and gradual production start in Q1 2028, achieving an annual capacity of approximately 350 tons. The facility, developed in collaboration with SMS Group, employs advanced gas atomization powder production technology. Leveraging 50 years of experience in high-performance steel development, SSAB has developed high-strength steel powders that require no heat treatment before use. Some grades can replace aluminum alloys as lightweight materials, suitable for defense, automotive, and engineering applications. Additive manufacturing enables near-net shaping to reduce material waste, shorten lead times, and support more flexible localized production.
