On September 18, Italy's FOMAS Group announced that the scope of its ISO 19443 nuclear energy supply chain quality management system certification has been extended to its MIMETE metal powder business, making it one of the few powder manufacturers in Europe qualified to supply powders for the nuclear power industry. ISO 19443 is a mandatory threshold standard for supplier quality management in the nuclear power sector. Certification coverage of metal powders means that qualification requirements for powder suppliers in the nuclear additive manufacturing component supply chain have officially taken effect. For procurement of austenitic stainless steel and nickel-based alloy powders for nuclear power, the certification scope list serves as a primary basis for screening qualified suppliers; MIMETE has thus secured a leading position in the ranks of European nuclear power powder supply qualifications. Nuclear powder buyers can screen suppliers based on the ISO 19443 certification scope list; domestic nuclear powder suppliers benchmarking against this standard can position themselves early for access to the European nuclear supply chain.
