On August 4, 2026, India's Lohia Aerospace Systems signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Israel's Massivit 3D Printing Technologies to establish a joint manufacturing alliance, bringing large-format additive manufacturing technology to India for the first time. Lohia plans to invest US$8-10 million to deploy 8-10 Massivit RapidWings printers at a new 250,000-square-foot facility in Kanpur. Massivit's Cast-In-Motion (CIM) technology enables the production of aerospace composite molds within days—compared to weeks with traditional methods—cutting lead times by up to 90% and reducing costs by up to 50%. Each mold costs approximately US$10,000-20,000, and each printer can produce 1-2 complete molds per day. Lohia holds exclusive rights for the Indian aerospace and defense sectors, covering UAVs and manned aircraft, with the strategic goal of achieving 100% import substitution for molds, in line with India's Make in India and Atmanirbhar Bharat initiatives. Industry significance: India's aerospace AM market has long relied on imported tooling. The Lohia-Massivit partnership marks a shift from part-level to tooling- and mold-level domestic aerospace additive manufacturing. Although large-format composite AM is not within the metal powder segment, the localization of aerospace tooling will indirectly drive overall capacity expansion in India's aerospace manufacturing sector, creating a market foundation for future metal AM powder demand. Value for powder buyers: This project involves composite AM and does not directly drive metal powder demand. However, as the world's fifth-largest economy, India's accelerated aerospace manufacturing autonomy implies potential medium-to-long-term growth in demand for metal AM powders (titanium and nickel-based alloys). Lohia holds AS9100D and NADCAP certifications, and should it enter the metal AM space, it would become a significant buyer in the Indian market.
