Nikon Advanced Manufacturing has announced its participation in the GOTHAAM project, led by General Atomics Aeronautical Systems and funded by America Makes with $5.5 million. The project focuses on the development of high-strength aluminum alloys for additive manufacturing and the establishment of a material allowables database, aiming to accelerate multi-source qualification of high-strength aluminum alloy powders in the defense additive supply chain. Nikon AM's involvement will strengthen process characterization and allowables data accumulation for high-strength aluminum alloy powders, driving material substitution and supply chain diversification in the defense sector. Value for powder buyers: 1) The establishment of an allowables database for high-strength aluminum alloy powders will reduce certification costs for end users and accelerate bulk powder procurement; 2) Multi-source qualification means more powder manufacturers will have the opportunity to enter the defense supply chain; 3) Pay attention to the high-strength aluminum alloy grades and performance data released by the project as a basis for powder benchmarking and customer development.
