Unfold has completed 'Freeze Frame 82.2,' a WAAM 3D-printed aluminum sculpture that now serves as the main entrance gate to DING, the new wing of the Design Museum Ghent. Printed by MX3D in the Netherlands, it measures over 4 by 4 meters. The aluminum component weighs 250 kg and was assembled by hand from 12 segments; the complete gate weighs 360 kg. The piece originates from a computer simulation, with the curtain frozen at frame 82.2. A robotic welding torch built up the image layer by layer, leaving weld beads that preserve the energy of the motion. DING is a 'beyond museum' space for debates, lectures, and workshops. This gate symbolizes design's continuous questioning.
