On October 7, 2026, Renishaw announced the completion of Phase 1 of the expansion at its Miskin site in South Wales (Hall 3), while celebrating the 15th anniversary of acquiring the site. The site's available area has reached 617,000 square feet (approximately 57,350 square meters), and once Phase 2 Hall 4 is operational, it will reach 880,000 square feet, ranking it among the UK's largest advanced manufacturing sites. This expansion is part of the additional £70 million investment announced in 2022. Renishaw's cumulative investment in acquiring and constructing the site totals approximately £150 million. The newly completed Hall 3 is used for manufacturing Renishaw's metal additive manufacturing systems (RenAM series LPBF machines) and AGILITY coordinate measuring machines, and is equipped with a multi-million-pound automated storage and retrieval warehouse; Hall 4 has already been structurally completed and will be partially operational in the coming months due to strong demand from AI-driven semiconductor equipment manufacturers for position encoders. The site is currently equipped with 134 CNC machine tools, producing approximately 1 million parts per month, 3 PCB production lines, and robotic assembly, with approximately 950 employees (compared to about 25 when production began in 2012). The expansion targets rising demand for precision metrology, additive manufacturing, and position measurement products. Both new buildings are designed for operational net-zero carbon, supporting Renishaw's 2028 Scope 1/2 net-zero emissions target. Group Manufacturing Director Jim Long stated that the board's continued investment in capacity expansion is a "huge vote of confidence" in the manufacturing operations and team, reflecting a long-term commitment to UK manufacturing. Value for powder buyers: ① Expanded metal AM system manufacturing capacity will accelerate delivery of RenAM series LPBF machines, and the growing installed base directly amplifies consumption and repeat purchases of validated powders such as titanium alloys, stainless steels, and cobalt-chromium alloys; ② Renishaw's global customer validation system is mature, and its equipment user base represents a stable purchaser of certification-grade metal powders—gaining entry into its material parameter database equates to channel endorsement; ③ Attention should be paid to access opportunities for European powder suppliers arising from its UK-local supply chain layout.
