On September 28, 2026, German metal powder manufacturer MTS Metal Powder GmbH received a DLX150 metal 3D printer supplied by DN Solutions to test and validate its own powders under real production conditions. Concurrently, MTS launched a new grade, MEPOSAD 316L-NbTiC—a titanium carbide-reinforced metal matrix composite based on 316L stainless steel produced via VIGA gas atomization. Measured data show that LPBF-formed parts achieve a relative density of >99.95% and a hardness increase of more than 50% compared to standard 316L, targeting wear-resistant and high-hardness applications. Value for powder buyers: powder manufacturers owning printing equipment for joint material-process validation is becoming a standard practice among European powder companies; the NbTiC reinforcement route offers a new grade option for wear-resistant and high-hardness applications; and it highlights differentiated development opportunities for composite powders (stainless steel + ceramic reinforcement phases).
