Luxembourg-based material developer AM 4 AM and UK additive manufacturing service provider AMS have signed a cooperation agreement to advance the industrial application of HiperAL, a high-performance aluminum alloy powder. HiperAL is a zirconium derivative of the 7000 series aluminum alloy, produced via AM 4 AM's patented cold plasma treatment process. The material contains no expensive rare elements like scandium (Sc), offering cost advantages while maintaining high performance, with a yield strength of 525 MPa, ultimate tensile strength of 550 MPa, and a high-temperature yield strength of 183 MPa at 250°C. Under the agreement, AMS will become the exclusive production partner for HiperAL components in the UK, following an engineering-led development approach. Representatives from both companies appeared together at the TCT 3Sixty exhibition in Birmingham, UK from June 2-4, exploring applications in aerospace, automotive, and other sectors.
