GEFERTEC, a German provider of wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology, has launched a new system called arcTitan, developed specifically to meet the processing requirements of titanium alloys. The system combines a fully sealed inert gas environment with a plasma WAAM process, maintaining oxygen levels between 10-15 ppm within the build chamber for stable and repeatable process control. All related system components—from gas management and sensor technology to wire feeding and process parameter control—are customized for the specific demands of titanium alloys. Standard build dimensions are 2000×700×1000 mm, with a maximum deposition rate of 3 kg/h, and customization is available based on customer needs. GEFERTEC states that the greatest challenge in titanium additive manufacturing is ensuring repeatable process conditions, and the arcTitan's build chamber, welding process, and auxiliary equipment are all specifically designed for this material. The system targets companies in the aerospace and energy sectors.
