As the world’s largest Western tungsten producer, CERATIZIT controls the entire value chain from ore to finished products, even supplying powder to competitors. Its GTP facility in Pennsylvania recycles carbide into powder. The company’s 3D-printed steel tools feature integrated cooling channels to combat metal redeposition during superalloy machining—a capability unattainable with conventional methods. Exhibited tools like aircraft assembly drills and milling cutters improve coolant delivery to cutting edges, reducing tool failure. The newly launched CTCS245 grade, containing rare metal ruthenium, is designed for heat-resistant nickel-based alloy milling, significantly lowering heat. This move signals that metal 3D printing is transitioning from prototyping to critical industrial toolmaking, especially for difficult-to-machine materials, opening new high-value-add pathways for the powder and tooling industries.
