Apollo Automobili has unveiled a 3D-printed titanium "Dragon-Scale Exhaust System" for its limited-edition hypercar, the Apollo EVO, claimed to be the largest single-piece printed exhaust component to date. The exhaust is made from aerospace-grade TA15 titanium alloy powder, formed via laser sintering, with a print time of 123 hours, and coated with a ceramic layer resistant to 1,000°C. Its bionic scale texture not only echoes the brand’s dragon theme but also serves thermal management functions. Apollo states that the one-piece structure is impossible to achieve via traditional manufacturing, and Design for Additive Manufacturing (DfAM) principles were key. The car, powered by a Ferrari F140 V12 engine producing over 800 hp, carries a price tag of over $4 million, with only 10 units globally. The first delivery is expected in the first half of 2026. This application demonstrates the potential of metal 3D printing to achieve complex geometries and functional integration in high-end automotive applications, setting a benchmark for titanium powder use under extreme conditions.
