VoxelMatters has compiled the latest additive manufacturing applications in the high-performance automotive sector. Apollo Automobili has developed a one-piece 3D-printed “Dragon Scale” exhaust system for its EVO hypercar, using aerospace-grade TA15 titanium alloy and laser powder bed fusion (LPBF) with a build time of 123 hours. The surface is coated with a ceramic layer resistant to 1,000°C, and only 10 units are produced. Bentley’s Batour convertible, co-designed with client Sonia Breslow, features 3D-printed platinum steering wheel center markers and organ stop controls. Czinger’s 21C incorporates a fully 3D-printed chassis via Divergent’s powder bed fusion technology, recently featured on Jay Leno’s Garage and in Goodyear global marketing campaigns. LongBow’s Speedster uses Large Format Additive Manufacturing (LFAM) for the world’s first fully 3D-printed car body, weighing under 1,000 kg. The MINI 1965 Victory Edition employs HP Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) technology from early development to mass production for key caps, interior trim parts, and steering wheel badges. These cases demonstrate that 3D printing is evolving from prototyping and tooling into a core manufacturing technology for high-performance and luxury vehicle series production.
