Norsk Titanium has signed a new cooperation and R&D agreement with Airbus to further advance the industrialization and certification of its proprietary Rapid Plasma Deposition (RPD) technology for titanium structural components. Previously, the Airbus A350 lower frame fitting became the largest and highest-grade additively manufactured structural part in commercial aviation, certified by EASA and FAA, mass-produced at Norsk Titanium's Pennsylvania facility, and successfully completed its first flight on the A350 in 2026. The new agreement will focus on fatigue-critical structural parts, qualification of titanium wire feedstock, and process standardization, integrating RPD technology into Airbus's material, process, and industrial standards system. The collaboration is structured around four work packages: technology scaling, material and process certification, and material expansion beyond titanium alloys.
