The Southern University of Science and Technology Jiaxing Research Institute plans to build China's first dedicated niobium alloy additive manufacturing production line in Wangdian Town, Xiuzhou District, Jiaxing. The line will use a cold shaping, low-energy-consumption process route to produce high-value niobium alloy powder, cutting energy consumption by about 90% and total cost by about 60% compared with conventional processes. Samples have already been sent to LandSpace's Jiaxing smart manufacturing base for testing, and the five-year output value target exceeds RMB 10 million. In related news, Huosheng Aerospace's 200-ton-class liquid oxygen/methane engine project has been signed and landed in Ningbo, and its 3D-printed combustion chamber has passed scaled test firing. Zhongke Fengyang has entered the footwear supply chain with metal 3D-printed shoe molds, producing one mold in 32 hours and more than 15,000 molds in total. The niobium alloy line is positioned as a powder source for high-temperature aerospace components, a segment where domestic supply has long been nearly absent. Once operational, it is expected to establish batch, stable supply capability for aerospace-grade niobium alloy powder. Huosheng Aerospace's "Huosheng-1" is a 200-ton-class full-flow staged combustion liquid oxygen/methane engine. Its first-generation production model has a sea-level thrust of 140 tons and a specific impulse of 315 seconds. Full-engine assembly and full-system hot-fire testing are scheduled for the end of 2026, when core components such as the combustion chamber will enter batch manufacturing. Zhongke Fengyang has reduced shoe mold error from ±1 mm to ±0.05 mm. Its new Jinjiang plant will expand to 100 pieces of equipment by the end of the year, and annual output value has reached more than RMB 65 million. The three developments point to the same trend: additive manufacturing is moving from isolated validation to production-line-level supporting capacity. Niobium alloy fills the domestic gap in refractory metal powders; mass production of LOX/methane engines drives sustained procurement of superalloy and copper alloy powders; and shoe molds bring the consumption of mold steel and stainless steel powders into the fast-paced development of consumer goods. For powder suppliers, aerospace-grade refractory alloys, engine-grade superalloys and copper alloys, and mold steel for shoe molds form three parallel growth tracks, and the pace of production line implementation directly determines powder certification and supply windows. Value for powder buyers: ① Monitor progress in niobium alloy powder sample testing and engage early with the SUSTech Jiaxing Research Institute production line to secure early supply eligibility for aerospace-grade powder; ② Prepare early for batch supply and certification of superalloy and copper alloy powders around the implementation of Huosheng Aerospace's engine assembly line; ③ Secure stable consumption channels for mold steel and stainless steel powders in the shoe mold segment, matching the expansion pace of the Jinjiang plant's 100 pieces of equipment by the end of the year.
