The Department of Civil and Mechanical Engineering at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU Construct) has significantly improved the sieving efficiency of 316L stainless steel powder by introducing the Russell AMPro® Lab Sieve Station. Processing time for half a liter of powder was reduced from 4 hours with traditional vibratory sieves to under 30 minutes, representing an efficiency gain of over 85%. Designed specifically for the recycling and classification of small-batch metal powders in additive manufacturing, the new system offers high automation, drastically reduces manual cleaning steps, and minimizes laboratory downtime. Since installation, it has processed over 100 liters of metal powder. This case illustrates that efficiency improvements in metal 3D printing depend not only on printer and process parameter optimization but also on the automation level of peripheral auxiliary equipment, such as powder sieving, which is a critical factor for overall efficiency and stability.
