Swedish industrial giant Sandvik has launched Osprey GRCop-42, a copper-chromium-niobium alloy powder originally developed by NASA. Designed for additive manufacturing components subjected to extreme thermal and mechanical loads, the material maintains performance at temperatures above 500°C. GRCop-42 combines high thermal conductivity and high strength, offering full chain traceability from raw material to finished product to reduce certification risks in aerospace component manufacturing. The alloy is suitable for regeneratively cooled rocket engine parts such as fuel injector panels and combustion chamber liners, which demand efficient heat transfer, tight tolerances, and predictable material behavior. Through improved metallurgical processes and optimized VIGA (vacuum inert gas atomization) technology, Sandvik achieves controlled and repeatable production of GRCop-42, with powder atomized in an inert gas environment for consistent batch-to-batch properties. The product is manufactured under an AS9100-certified quality system and has already been used in customer qualification and production projects.
