On October 9, the Nagano Prefecture General Industrial Technology Center (GITC) announced the development of an upcycling technology that reuses metal machining chips to produce powder for metal 3D printers. The center says the technology contributes to efficient use of metal resources and resource-saving in manufacturing processes. The achievement will be exhibited at the 'Industrial Fair in Shinshu 2026' to be held on October 23-24 at Big Hat in Nagano City, where parts printed with the upcycled powder and 3D model samples will be displayed. The center also announced a cold spray method for forming copper films on resin surfaces. Value for powder buyers: 1) Recycling machining chips into powder opens up a low-cost source of recycled powder, aligning with the momentum of recycled powder initiatives by Japanese public research institutes and Europe's EPMA, as recycled powder moves toward mainstream processes; 2) The alloy systems used in this technology and industrialization partners can be tracked to assess the potential supply of recycled powder grades; 3) It serves as an international benchmark for domestic powder manufacturers' recycling routes.
