Hanzhong Zinc Industry's 'Zinc-Based Composite Material R&D, Preparation and Industrialization Project' (filed with Mianxian Development and Reform Bureau under code 2501-610725-04-01-941965; total investment of approximately RMB 450 million, fully self-funded) plans an annual production line for 20,000 tons of spherical zinc-based powder, 5,000 tons of flake zinc-based powder, 1,000 tons of special alloy powder and additive manufacturing (3D printing) products, together with a supporting 3D printing plant. Powder-making equipment has already been procured in advance (four 250 kg vacuum melting gas atomization (VIGA) powder production units tendered in April; dedicated nitrogen atomization equipment for ultrafine spherical zinc powder tendered in August). The construction general contracting tender plan was published on October 12, and the tender announcement is expected to be issued in November (estimated budget of approximately RMB 100 million, in three lots; Lot 2 includes the 3D printing plant). This is a case of a traditional non-ferrous smelting enterprise extending downstream into additive manufacturing materials. (Ada candidate inclusion)
