The FAW Additive Manufacturing Innovation Center was recently officially inaugurated, becoming China's first additive manufacturing innovation platform focused on automotive applications. The center is equipped with 8 mainstream processes and 43 industrial-grade printing machines, producing approximately 19,000 parts per year. The center uses 3D printing technology, in which digital models drive the layer-by-layer melting and forming of metal powder without the need for mold development, significantly accelerating R&D validation. For products such as the Hongqi Jinkuihua series, the 3D-printed interior substrate parts solution delivers annual cost savings of approximately RMB 30.59 million, and the related processes have been applied in three mass-production vehicles. Notably, the technology also solves the problem of restoring parts for classic car reproductions that conventional processes cannot achieve, and covers the entire product development process, from design review to long-tail spare parts supply, and is gradually being integrated into the R&D and manufacturing systems of all FAW brands.
