Effective November 1, two mandatory national standards—the Safety Specification for Inerting of Combustible Dust (GB 37241-2025) and the Safety Specification for Explosion Protection of Combustible Dust Removal Systems (GB 17919-2025)—officially come into force, under the administration of the Ministry of Emergency Management. GB 17919-2025 upgrades the previously recommended standard GB/T 17919-2008. Clause 4.12 requires that dry dust collectors used in metal powder additive manufacturing (3D printing) involving aluminum, magnesium, titanium, and other metal powders adopt atmosphere inerting measures. It also prohibits electrostatic precipitators and gravity settling chambers; for magnesium and aluminum dust systems, carbon dioxide-based explosion suppressants are strictly prohibited, and monitoring and alarms for differential air pressure, temperature, liquid level, and oxygen content must be installed and interlocked with the control system. For powder production and AM workshops, full-chain retrofitting of dust removal systems and upgrading of inerting monitoring have become hard compliance requirements. A self-inspection and rectification window is now open for dust-handling enterprises, and demand for related equipment and monitoring retrofits is expected to be released in concentrated form.
