New National Standard for Magnesium Powder to Take Effect on November 1, Incorporating Additive Manufacturing into Scope
GB/T 5149—2026 "Magnesium and Magnesium Alloy Powder" will officially take effect on November 1, 2026, consolidating and replacing three previous standards in one go (GB/T 5149.1-2004 Milled Magnesium Powder, GB/T 5150-2004 Aluminum-Magnesium Alloy Powder, and GB/T 31974-2015 Passivated Granular Magnesium). The new national standard explicitly includes additive manufacturing within its scope and sets unified criteria for the sphericity (typically required to be above 92%), oxygen content, and flowability of magnesium powder used in additive manufacturing, providing a "preliminary entry ticket" for magnesium powder to enter high-end additive manufacturing supply chains. The standard applies to the production and delivery of milled magnesium powder, atomized magnesium powder, and ball-milled aluminum-magnesium alloy powder used in fields such as powder metallurgy and additive manufacturing. It is administered by the National Technical Committee for Standardization of Nonferrous Metals (SAC/TC 243), and drafting organizations include Shanxi Fuhengdi, Shanxi Yinguang Huasheng Magnesium Industry, Tangshan Weihao Magnesium Powder, and Chongqing University. 2026-11-01IperionX Sets Record Q3 Titanium Powder Output of 8.7 Tonnes: HAMR Furnace Validates Over 200 Tonnes Annual Capacity
IperionX released its September 2026 quarterly report on October 29, reporting record HAMR titanium powder production of 8.7 tonnes in Q3, a sixfold increase from 1.4 tonnes in the prior quarter; finished powder inventory at quarter-end was 19 tonnes, and titanium scrap feedstock inventory was 207 tonnes. The company said it has moved from the capacity-building phase to the qualified-product and funded-manufacturing-project phase. On capacity validation, the HAMR furnace completed a 1.6-tonne continuous deoxygenation run, operating 24/7 for 63 consecutive hours and validating an annualized capacity above the 200-tonne target (approximately 219 tonnes equivalent). The next-generation GenX continuous production platform processed over 500 kg of titanium powder across four consecutive cycles in 41 hours, with all valid samples meeting ASTM oxygen content specifications; capacity is six times that of the batch HAMR process, with electricity consumption per kilogram reduced by more than 75%, magnesium consumption by more than 45%, and hydrogen consumption by more than 60%, equivalent to approximately 100 tonnes of annual capacity. The first of two additional Elnik HSPT sintering furnaces has entered production, removing the sintering bottleneck. In downstream manufacturing, the company produced 1,500 titanium fasteners in-house at its Virginia facility, covering the full process from pressing, sintering, heat treatment, and machining to thread rolling, and received a follow-on purchase order from the U.S. Army GVSC for JLTV and trailer fasteners, with test performance exceeding the SAE Grade 8 steel torque-yield standard; all titanium components for the U.S. Navy's Carver Pump have been completed and entered final customer testing; and a prototype order for large-format titanium track pins with the U.S. Army and Rheinmetall is progressing. Financially, the company received a second Army task order (initially $11.5 million, up to $25.4 million with options), holds $63 million in cash, and has total liquidity of approximately $96.7 million including pending government funds; the expansion to 1,400 tonnes per year of titanium powder capacity is advancing with full funding from a $47.1 million IBAS award and a $12.7 million DPA Title III award.
2026-10-29ADA Space Passes HKEX Listing Hearing, Set to Become Hong Kong's First Space AI Stock
ADA Space (Chengdu ADA Space Technology Co., Ltd.) passed the Hong Kong Stock Exchange's listing hearing on October 29, with Guotai Haitong as sole sponsor. Upon listing, it will become Hong Kong's first "space AI" stock. This is the company's third attempt at a Hong Kong IPO, following filings in January 2025, August 2025, and May 2026. As of April 2026, the company had raised a total of RMB 3.55 billion across multiple funding rounds, at a post-money valuation of approximately RMB 11.6 billion. It has launched 27 satellites to date, 18 of which are self-developed AI computing satellites, and holds orders for 37 AI satellites with a total contract value of RMB 1.231 billion. Revenue was RMB 508 million in 2023, RMB 554 million in 2024, and RMB 703 million in 2025. Additive manufacturing is a key part of the company's satellite production: its AI additive manufacturing base in Chongzhou, Sichuan, has an annual design capacity of about 200 sets of satellite structural components. In December 2025, it established China's first space computing joint laboratory with Shanghai Jiao Tong University, covering areas including in-orbit additive manufacturing. A failed launch mission in January 2026 included a 3D-printed experimental satellite. The company operates multiple satellite design, testing, and additive manufacturing bases in Sichuan, Zhejiang, and other locations, and the metal additive manufacturing of satellite structural components creates sustained demand for aerospace-grade metal powders such as titanium alloys and aluminum alloys.
