The South African Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has successfully completed a trial production of 316L stainless steel powder (8 kg in the first batch) using newly installed ultrasonic atomization equipment. It subsequently produced 10 kg of titanium powder for aerospace and biomedical 3D printing. The initiative aims to end South Africa's complete reliance on imports for high-quality additive manufacturing powders. In addition, the RAPDASA-RobMech-PRASA-AMI 2026 conference was held on October 27 in Port Elizabeth, South Africa, focusing on additive manufacturing research and industrialization.
