Reported on October 27, Giant Intelligent Manufacturing announced the completion of an angel funding round in the tens of millions of RMB. The company focuses on ultra-large metal wire-arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) equipment and processes, targeting integrated forming of large aerospace structural components. Its self-developed equipment uses a 40-arc parallel wire-feed scheme, achieving a maximum build size in the 20-meter class—one of the largest metal additive manufacturing capabilities publicly reported in China—and, combined with machining, can deliver large titanium alloy and superalloy structural parts. The funding will be used for equipment delivery, capacity expansion, and advancement of aerospace customer validation projects. Wire-arc additive manufacturing uses wire feedstock and has limited direct powder demand, but it represents the accelerating penetration of metal additive manufacturing into ultra-large structural components. Value to powder buyers: (1) commercialization of ultra-large-scale wire-arc additive manufacturing will drive procurement of supporting titanium alloy/superalloy powders in hybrid processes; (2) once validation and volume production of large aerospace parts ramp up, supporting powder and wire suppliers will benefit in tandem; (3) it is advisable to track its equipment delivery customer list and subsequent funding pace to gauge the real progress of industrialization.
