German wire arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) specialist GEFERTEC has introduced its new arcTitan system, developed specifically for titanium alloy processing. The system combines a fully enclosed inert gas environment with a plasma WAAM process, maintaining oxygen levels in the build chamber at 10–15 ppm for stable and repeatable process control. All relevant system components—from gas management and sensor technology to wire feeding and process parameter controls—are tailored to the specific requirements of titanium alloys. Standard build dimensions are 2000 × 700 × 1000 mm, with a maximum deposition rate of 3 kg/h, and the system can be customized to customer needs. GEFERTEC notes that the greatest challenge in titanium additive manufacturing is ensuring repeatable process conditions, and the arcTitan’s build chamber, welding process, and auxiliary equipment are all designed specifically for this material. The system is targeting companies in the aerospace and energy sectors.
