The 2026 "Mechanical Industry Science and Technology Award" winners were recently announced. Two projects jointly tackled by AVIC MTT with Shandong University, Hebei University of Science and Technology and other universities and research institutes received a Second Prize and a Third Prize for Technical Invention. Among them, "Key Technologies and Applications for Cross-Scale Shape and Property Control in Laser Additive Manufacturing of Nickel-Based Superalloys" won the Second Prize, and "Key Technologies and Equipment for Laser Additive Manufacturing of High-Performance Titanium/Magnesium Alloys" won the Third Prize. The nickel-based superalloy project addressed common challenges such as printing microcracks and substandard performance in laser additive components by building a collaborative innovation system covering active crack control, integrated composition-process-performance design, and high-quality gas atomization powder preparation. On the materials side, it developed and mass-produced GH3230-G, a crack-free nickel-based alloy dedicated to additive manufacturing, whose high-temperature strength and elongation at 900°C reach internationally leading levels. On the equipment side, it developed a complete set of VIGA powder-making equipment, produced nickel-based superalloy powder with ultra-high sphericity, and took the lead in the industry by building a high-quality powder production line with an annual capacity of 500 tons. The titanium/magnesium alloy project broke through technical challenges including electrode induction melting gas atomization (EIGA) powder production, powder sieving, multi-path dust suppression, and performance control of formed parts, and developed a series of titanium alloy powders such as Ti6Al4V, TA15, and TA31. Among them, the compressive strength of Ti6Al4V porous specimens increased by 42.49%, and components were reduced in weight by more than 50%. The series of products, equipment, and components from the two projects have been applied in fields such as aerospace. AVIC MTT has built a closed-loop, full-industry-chain integrated innovation service capability covering alloy raw materials, metal powder materials, atomization powder-making equipment, metal 3D printing equipment, and process technology validation.
