On October 21, an environmental impact assessment (EIA) public notice confirmed that Jinchuan Group's micro/nano copper powder project has passed EIA approval: annual capacity of 180 tonnes, total investment of RMB 166 million, plant located in Lanzhou. The project targets downstream applications including electronic pastes, powder metallurgy, and additive manufacturing. Micro/nano copper powder is a key raw material for conductive inks, electronic packaging, and high-thermal-conductivity components, with technical barriers concentrated in particle size control and anti-oxidation treatment. Jinchuan Group is a leading domestic producer of copper, nickel, and cobalt resources; this move into deep processing of micro/nano powders is one of the building blocks of its non-ferrous new materials strategy. Value for powder buyers: (1) Expanded domestic micro/nano copper powder capacity will ease reliance on imports for high-end electronic-grade copper powder, bringing more favorable pricing and lead times; (2) The new capacity will require downstream validation and procurement—users of electronic pastes and 3D-printing copper alloys can engage early for sample submissions; (3) Anti-oxidation packaging and storage services for copper powder represent a differentiated market entry opportunity.
