U.S. additive manufacturing jet engine maker Beehive Industries has acquired two machine shops in the Greater Cincinnati area—Able Tool Corporation and its subsidiary Planet Products Corporation—which together bring over 120 years of machining experience. The acquisition coincides with the Frenzy engine entering full-speed production, following a $29.7 million U.S. Air Force contract to accelerate engine deployment. In early June, the company ordered 30 EOS metal printers, doubling its additive manufacturing capacity. Beehive operates with two centers of excellence: a production machining center in Cincinnati for high-volume machining, and an additive manufacturing center in Knoxville for metal printing and post-processing, targeting an annual production capacity of over 8,000 engines. This acquisition underscores the strategic value of hybrid subtractive-additive manufacturing as metal AM evolves from the validation phase to mass production.
