Munich Medical Devices (MMD), Spectroplast and FIDENTIS officially opened a shared medical additive manufacturing center on October 22, 2026, at Flößergasse in Munich's Mittersendling district. Jointly built by the three Munich-headquartered companies, the center aims to pool their additive manufacturing capabilities and establish Munich as a leading city in the field. With each company bringing distinct expertise and processes, the center will deploy PEEK, silicone and metal 3D printing solutions under one roof. MMD, recently founded by part of the original Kumovis team, specializes in PEEK implant production, including patient-specific cranial implants; Kumovis's medical-grade PEEK fused layer manufacturing process was acquired by 3D Systems, renamed EXT 220 MED, and produced the first FDA-cleared 3D-printed PEEK cranial implant. Spectroplast focuses on silicone 3D printing and has developed the proprietary UV-curable silicone material TrueSil, available in various Shore A hardnesses. FIDENTIS, a Fraunhofer IGCV spin-off, produces dental restorations and is distinguished by its multi-material laser powder bed fusion (L-PBF) process, which integrates multiple metals into a single dental implant; it previously disclosed details of a multi-material dental implant made from cobalt-chromium-molybdenum (CoCrMo) and gold. The center will integrate these three manufacturing technologies, with partners conducting their own production while sharing manufacturing infrastructure, regulatory knowledge and other resources. Spectroplast CEO Maximilian Eils said medical additive manufacturing is gaining substantial momentum, with new materials and processes enabling an increasing number of applications, and that PEEK, silicone and metal are now united under one roof in Munich. FIDENTIS's multi-material L-PBF process directly involves metal powder bed fusion shaping.
